Installation & fault finding

We can organise installation with one of our trusted installation partners: licensed electricians experienced with DEVI systems, for homes and commercial projects. If an existing floor has stopped heating, we can help locate and repair the fault.

Supply and install

One point of contact from design to handover

You deal with Heat Zone. We design and supply the system, and our installation partner lays, tests and connects it to the DEVI installation guide, so the DEVI warranty stays valid.

  1. Send your plans

Room sizes, floor finish, subfloor, suburb and timing. Photos help for renovations.

  2. Design and quote

We size the system and quote supply and installation together, itemised by room or stage.

  3. Installation

Our partner prepares the floor, lays the mat or cable and fits the floor sensor in conduit.

  4. Testing

Resistance and insulation are tested before, during and after tiling or screeding.

  5. Connection and handover

Thermostat connected and set up, the Warranty Certificate completed and the results handed over.

Fault finding and repairs

Floor stopped heating? We can find the fault.

Most faults can be located and repaired without replacing the whole floor. Our partners test the system, pinpoint where the problem is, and open up only the area needed to repair it.

Common causes

  • Damage during building work. A nail, screw, drill or grinder through the element during renovations or fit-out.
  • Damage during installation. A cable nicked while laying, tiling or screeding.
  • Thermostat or floor sensor failure. Often the simplest fix, with no floor work at all.
  • RCD tripping. Usually an insulation fault, moisture or a damaged cable.
  • Connection faults. A loose or failed connection at the thermostat or junction.

How we locate and repair it

  1. Check the basics. Breaker and RCD, the thermostat display and any error message, and the floor sensor reading.
  2. Test the element. Conductor resistance and insulation resistance tell us whether the cable is damaged and what kind of fault it is.
  3. Locate the fault. Thermal imaging and cable fault-location equipment narrow it down to a small area of floor.
  4. Repair. A small section is opened and the cable repaired with a DEVI repair kit.
  5. Retest and report. The system is tested again and you get the results in writing.
Under DEVI warranty? If a DEVI product has failed, the claim may cover the repair and the floor. Keep your Warranty Certificate and start with our warranty claim form.
Not a DEVI system?Ask us whether we can help with other brands of electric floor heating.
Stay safe.If the RCD keeps tripping, leave the heating circuit off and don't try to open the floor. Electrical testing and repairs must be done by a licensed electrician.

What's included

A typical supply and install

  • Site check of the subfloor and floor finish
  • Insulation board where the floor build-up allows
  • Heating mat or cable laid to the design, with the floor sensor in Flexpipe conduit
  • Resistance and insulation tests recorded at each stage
  • Thermostat supplied, connected and programmed by a licensed electrician
  • Warranty Certificate completed and returned to you

Tiling, screeding and floor coverings are usually done by your builder or tiler. We coordinate the timing so the element is tested before and after they lay the floor.
