Mats and cables both deliver heat under tiles. Which one suits depends on your room and your installer.
Heating mats
A mat is a heating cable already fixed to a mesh at a set spacing, so the output per square metre is fixed. Roll it out, cut the mesh (never the cable) to turn at walls, and tile over it.
- Fastest install in square and rectangular rooms
- Output fixed at 150 or 200 W/m²
- Minimal build-up height
Loose cable
A cable is fixed to the floor with fixing strips at whatever spacing gives the output you want. It takes longer but fits any shape.
- Fits irregular rooms and around fixtures
- Output set by cable spacing
- Suits screed and slab installations as well as under tile
Our advice
For most bathrooms a mat is quicker. For kitchens, L-shaped rooms and larger areas with cabinetry, cable often gives better coverage. Send us a floor plan and we'll lay it out for you.
